Professional Development Day for Educators

The Greater Vancouver Zoo is opening its doors to educators of all grade levels, from pre-school to University students, to learn what it means to be an accredited zoo, and to see what kind of educational resources we have available for you.

  • Receive a free family admission upon learning at the School to Zoo booth

9:45 - 1:00 Activity Stations including train tour, guided educational tour, Conservation Corner open house, and animal encounters
1:00 - 1:30 Fabulous Feline Presentation, Prize Draw and Conclusion

Let one of our experienced education tour guides show you how we can teach your students about ecosystems, conservation, and amazing animal adaptations. Please choose from the following:

  • Tour #1 - 9:45am-10:30am
  • Tour #2 - 11:30am -12:15pm
Join us for an animal encounter to meet one or more of our zoo residents and learn about how we can bring the zoo to you with one of our outreach programs. Please choose from the following:
  • Animal Encounter #1 - 10:45am-11:15am
  • Animal Encounter #2 - 12:15pm-12:45pm
The Safari Express Miniature Train is a 15-minute narrated tour around the zoo. If you would like to join us for a tour, please choose from the following:

2019 Professional Development Day
Session Professional Development Day: October 25, 2019 9:30AM - 1:30PM OPEN

While the guided professional development event runs from 9:30am until 1:30pm, you are welcome to stay and explore the zoo until closing, at 4:00pm. Light snacks & refreshments will be available in our Animalasium Learning Centre, and you are welcome to bring your own food. Our Safari Grill will be open during the day and serves a variety of food and beverage options.

We encourage you to carpool to reduce carbon emissions, and a parking pass will be emailed to you prior to the event. Our facility is primarily an outdoor venue so dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. If you have mobility challenges, medical conditions, or allergies we should be aware of, please contact us at 604-856-6825 ext.28.
