Special Event-Access Day
The Greater Vancouver Zoo has been hosting Access Day for people living with a physical or emotional disability for over 12 years. Access Day provides eligible guests with a discounted rate of $5.00 per participant. Caregivers and support workers are provided with free admission when accompanying a person with a physical or emotional disability. In addition to free admission, other free activities, including Keeper Talks and bubble stations, will be available throughout the day. We are pleased to announce that Access Day will be taking place over two days this year. Your choice of dates are Tuesday, May 28 or Wednesday, May 29. You can register online. Jr. Zoologist Summer Camps

The Greater Vancouver Zoo's summer Jr. Zoologist camps are taking place Monday, July 15 - Friday, July 19 and Monday, August 12- Friday, August 16th. Join us for a day or for the whole week while we explore the Diversity of Living Things. Zoo staff will demonstrate how scientists observe animal features to distinguish and classify them. Create enrichment items for animals, make crafts, conduct experiments, meet some of our Animal Care staff, and more!

Monday: The Diversity of Living Things: taxonomy
Join us for an introduction into the science of animal classification and learn the difference between Kingdoms, Orders, Families and Species

Tuesday: Class Reptilia: how do we classify reptiles?
Learn about the four existing orders of reptiles: turtles, crocodilians, (lizards and snakes), and

Wednesday: Class Aves: how do we classify birds?
Classification of birds involves grouping them into categories according to physiological similarities; this session will compare ostriches to other birds

Thursday: Class Mammalia: how do we classify mammals
Today's focus will be on animals that usually possess hair or fur and mammary glands

Friday: Felidae and Canidae: how do we classify felines and canines?
We conclude our week with families and learn how to differentiate between cats and dogs

Turtle Dash 5k & 1k Hatchling Run
On Saturday, September 14, 2019, bring your family and friends to the Greater Vancouver Zoo for the Inaugural Turtle Dash, a day to run for wildlife conservation. With a 5k & 1k run, get your feet moving and cheer on others racing through the zoo. Participants receive free admission to the zoo for the day, Post Race Snacks, Commemorative T-Shirt and Face Painting for the Kids, all included with your registration. Then you can head out after the event and discover the amazing animals and talks provided by our wildlife conversation officers, this a fun day out for the whole family. Proceeds from registrations will go toward funding conservation projects at GVZoo as well as the following groups: Wildlife Preservation Canada, Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society and International Rhino Foundation.

9:30am................. **Enjoy a narrated train ride on our Safari Express Miniature Train **Our train tour accommodates two wheelchair passengers at a time. Please let us know if you will require wheelchair accommodations for the train tour. After the Safari Express tour, you are welcome to enjoy the rest of the day at the Zoo!
